Inside Framptons: Supporting British Farmers and Leading the Plant-Based Revolution
(Interview with James Mills, Sales Director at Framptons)
As the largest independent producer of plant-based drinks in the UK, Framptons has a deep connection to its agricultural roots and a clear vision for the future. In this interview, James, our Sales Director, shares insights into the journey of Framptons, the rise of the Wessex Oat range, and what the future holds for plant-based beverages.

A History of Innovation in the Heart of Somerset
Q: What does it mean to work at a company with such a long history in the food industry?
James: Framptons has a fantastic history – over 100 years in food manufacturing, starting with egg products and evolving into plant-based and dairy drinks over the last 25 years. Today, we’re the UK’s largest independent plant-based drinks. That’s a pretty special journey, and it’s all about innovating while staying true to our roots here in Somerset.

Supporting British Agriculture
Q: How does Framptons contribute to British farming?
James: Supporting British agriculture is central to everything we do. We source a large portion of our ingredients – particularly oats – from local farmers in the Wessex region. That’s not just a business decision; it’s about sustaining the agricultural community and contributing to the success of cereal crops in the plant-based market. It’s a win for both farmers and consumers who want locally sourced, high-quality products.

A Day in the Life at Framptons
Q: Can you describe a typical day at Framptons?
James: Every day is different at Framptons. We’re always running product trials, working with customers on new briefs, and ensuring that our manufacturing processes are in line with the highest standards. We have regular audits from retailers, ensuring that we meet the most stringent quality requirements. It’s a fast-paced environment, but that’s what makes it exciting.

A Local Revolution in Plant-Based Drinks
Q: What excites you most about the new Wessex Oat range?
James: The Wessex Oat range is a real turning point for us. For the last 20 years, we’ve made products for other people, but with Wessex Oats, we have created and entry level range that showcases the best of British farming. It’s incredibly exciting to be able to tell that story – not just of the product, but of the farmers, the sustainability efforts, and the local sourcing and flavour that goes into every carton.

Framptons is proud to be the UK’s largest independent producer of plant-based drinks, combining decades of expertise with a commitment to British farming and sustainable innovation. The Wessex Oat range is just the beginning – our focus remains on delivering high-quality, locally sourced products that meet growing consumer demand.
